Rehab for Women

If there comes a time when you have to find a rehab program, you may be nervous about sharing your struggles with others. We are sympathetic to this discomfort, which is why we created a rehab program specifically designed for women. Our personalized approach to care addresses the unique issues faced by women while giving them a safe space to share their thoughts and concerns.

Women and Addiction

Women have unique struggles when it comes to addiction. They often self-medicate, using prescription drugs to help them get through the day, which eventually leads to dependence and then addiction. In fact, over 6% of women are reported to have misused drugs in 2018. The same year a minimum of 19 million women used drugs at least once. Unfortunately, 3% of women not only misuse drugs but have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) while over 10% suffer from an alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Women tend to take higher doses of medications and experience more side effects than men. This can often lead to them progressing from substance use to addiction at a swift rate. In addition to these struggles, women also find it more difficult to quit using drugs or alcohol, and have a higher rate of relapse. Sadly, in 2020, the drug overdose rate among women rose by almost 25% with a recorded 28,071 falling to this tragic fate.

Though women are generally more likely to attend a recovery program than men, they typically start treatment with more severe issues. These include behavioral, social, psychological, and physical problems. This often requires them to spend more time in a rehab program in order to effectively move forward.

Some women might be hesitant to start addiction treatment for reasons such as having children to care and provide for. However, it is a necessary step in order for them to be the caregiver they want to be and set up a stable foundation for their children.

What Is Rehab for Women?

A woman smiles as she thinks about a Women's Rehab Program

Rehab for women refers to a gender-specific facility or program that is dedicated solely to helping female clients. We offer this program because we want all of our clients to feel secure and comfortable.

Women have decidedly different struggles than men do, especially when they are in a rehab program. Men and women’s body makeups are also inherently distinct and, as such, their addiction recovery processes are also unique. Consequently, we have built a program devoted to helping clients work through the particular aspects that are exclusive to a woman in recovery.

Why Should I Enroll in a Women’s Rehab Program?

There are multiple benefits to enrolling in a program that caters to your gender-specific needs. One such benefit is that a woman may feel more comfortable discussing personal struggles or sensitive information with other women.

For instance, if abuse or sexual trauma drives your dependence, you might not want to discuss these deeply personal issues with a mixed group. However, you might feel more comfortable sharing that experience with other women, some of whom may have gone through a similar experience.

Another reason a women’s rehab program might be best suited for you is that therapy sessions focus specifically on women’s issues. For instance, since women are predisposed to developing mental health disorders like depression, their treatment can be more focused on dual-diagnosis therapy.

These programs can also take a more intense look at the problems women often have with body image or substance use disorders. By addressing each part of your diagnosis, you can learn more about your disease and how to find recovery.

Finally, females will often get more out of a women’s rehab program than they will out of a non-gender-specific treatment program. You will gain skills and tools that address the unique struggles you face so you can overcome your temptations and avoid relapse.

What Are the Benefits of Enrolling in Women’s Drug and Alcohol Rehab

There are many benefits of enrolling in a drug and alcohol rehab for women. A women’s rehab specializes in gender-specific treatment methods. These methods, along with the supportive community, provide an incredible foundation for women to overcome their addiction.

Some of the many benefits of drug and alcohol rehab for women include:

Safety and Security

Many women have been victims of sexual abuse and violence. In many of these cases, a man inflicted this trauma. As a result, women could feel uncomfortable sharing these particular experiences with men around them. In a women’s rehab program, women can feel safe having this discussion.

Supportive Community

A nurturing community is rooted in support and compassion. Women’s rehab promotes an attitude of girl power, which can build strong momentum. A key component of preventing relapse is participation in support groups. Women-centered support groups provide a unique understanding of women’s issues.

Therapy Focusing on Women’s Issues

When enrolling in rehab, women can feel guilty for what can be perceived as abandoning their families, careers, and obligations. Issues such as eating disorders and low self-esteem are often lingering beneath the surface, too. Drug and alcohol rehab for women can help them to address and work through these types of feelings.

A Multifaceted Approach

Drug rehab for women offers a comprehensive treatment plan for addiction. Through a combination of evidence-based and alternative treatment methods, women begin to flourish in this environment. Some of the many components of this approach can include:

Acceptance of Different Sexual Orientations

Compared to traditional treatment centers, women’s rehab can be especially inclusive when it comes to the LGBT community. This judgment-free space makes it easier for women to openly share their thoughts and feelings.

Inpatient Treatment vs. Outpatient Treatment at a Women’s Rehab Center

Inpatient Treatment at Women’s Rehab

Inpatient treatment at a women’s rehab is the highest level of care we offer. Inpatient treatment offers 24/7 medical support and supervision. Women will live on-site at our beautiful recovery center, and treatment will be part of their daily routine.

This routine is carefully structured so that each recovering individual can truly get the most out of their day. In women’s rehab, women can take the time to focus on themselves as they’ll be away from any harmful and stressful triggers they may experience back home.

Inpatient treatment generally lasts between 30 to 90 days but can last longer if necessary. Inpatient rehab offers a wide range of evidence-based treatment methods and full use of amenities.

Outpatient Treatment at Women’s Rehab

Outpatient treatment is the most flexible form of care. Outpatient treatment at women’s rehab allows women to focus more of their time on home, work, or school obligations. Women will be able to create their schedules and travel to the facility weekly for treatment. Outpatient treatment involves many of the same therapies and techniques used in inpatient treatment.

Personalized Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders

Our women’s addiction treatment center focuses on more than just substance use disorder. We also believe in the importance of mental health-centered treatment. There are many underlying causes of addiction that can affect women internally, like mental health disorders.

It’s common to experience a mental health disorder like depression or anxiety simultaneously with addiction. The presence of both an addiction and mental health illness is referred to as co-occurring disorders or a dual diagnosis.

Our dedicated addiction specialists understand the challenge of co-occurring mental health disorders. Together, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan to ensure each woman’s needs are met.

Common co-occurring issues we treat include:

  • Attention-deficit disorder (ADD)/attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders
  • Self-Injury
  • Low Self-Esteem
